Advice sought - 6" SCT or 8" ultra compact reflect new
      #4118821 - 10/15/10 08:48 PM

much preferred 2 eye viewing, using a binoviewer would you prefer

1. a 6" SCT on a big tripod / eq mount - i have a tall tripod can stand or sit down to look - f10 little kinder to ep's, less light gather

2. a ultra compact 8" dob with shortened truss poles to allow binoviewer to reach focus - as i am tall chair viewing would be necessary

any advice appreciated -

focal length is close 1500 SCT vs 1200 reflect, pairs of eps I have are at 30mm plossl, 15mm wide ang plossl (little mushy outer field), & 9.4mm speers waler 80 deg for high power

A binoviewer in a 6" SCT is fine, but putting a 1520mm focal length instrument on a tripod does not work that well...been there, done that. It would be fine on a suitable EQ mount. The problem really comes down to pointing the scope and holding it where you point it, especially when point towards the zenith.

You should be able to come to focus with a Newtonian without shortening the truss poles by using an OCS like Denkmeiers sells.
