As Paul (astroman) says, the seeing held together for around 3hrs. Started my session around 21.30 with half an hour or so with Saturn. Also took in M44 and M67 before I lost them in the West. They both showed up well. Took a half hour tea break at this point while the sky darkened. Between 23.30 and 01.30 I was managing to observe faint fuzzies down to Mag 10+. It's the first time in a long time that I have been able to enjoy so many objects in the Virgo cluster. I crossed a few more NGCs off my list of "seen objects" last night. Small grey blobs they may be, but I took great delight in seeing them. Some of the brighter open clusters etc were excellent too. Clusters M3, M5, M13 and Galaxies M51, M53, M63 and M64 were some of the highlights. All in all a good night, which only came to a close by the on set of high cloud. P.S Great images Paul. It was nice here last pm, not as nice as Saturday, but still very good. Caught M65 and M66, as well as the Sombrero, Bode's Nebula and the Eskimo Nebula once again. I had generated a list of double star targets to check out, but none of them were in the SAO catalog provided with the CPC 1100 hand control, so I didn't get to see any. Did wander around Cancer and Gemini, where a lot of them were located, and probably ran across a couple, as I did manage to view some very faint doubles. Just wish I knew what they in fact were..... Does anyone know if there's a faint double at the center of the Eskimo Nebula? Thought I saw it Saturday, and saw it again last night. Very faint star in the center, looked like a double Saturday, a single last night. Anyone know for sure? Probably 11th magnitude at best. As far as I know, it's a Planetary with a single star at it's center. Hopefully, one of the lads will be able to help you out. Regards. Peter. I remember seeing Scorpius early evening late Summer/early Fall, but I was surprised to see M57 & Alberio since they were around last Fall. So I took a look at Celestron's The SkyX First Light and found that M57 & Alberio are actually summer objects, slowly fading into the west in the Fall. [Re: flboy]       #4555440 - 05/01/11 04:36 PM Edit   Reply   Quote Quick Reply   Oh yeah, while out last night imaging Saturn I dropped in my 2x Barlow along with the 9T6(appox 444x)to get Saturn centered in the FOV for the webcam. Saturn was huge and not bad considering that I was over 50x per inch of aperture. I could not see the Cassini division, but the overall image was good with the rings & planet clearly in view. And then when I removed the 2x Barlow & looked through the 9mm EP, Saturn had shrunk bigtime(with better details). I still find this all interesting and fun. Had a couple or three Solar viewing sessions and the same number of night sessions rounded off last night with Four hours of observing under some of the best skies I can remember. Finely dragged myself indoor due to aching limbs and shortage of tea (empty flasks) at about 02.45 (started at 22.30ish). Good luck for tonight Tom, and John if you are venturing out. Regards. Peter. [Re: Peter9]       #4556776 - 05/02/11 09:54 AM Edit   Reply   Quote Quick Reply   Thanks Peter, hoping to get some imaging done tonight, i was out for an hour and half Saturday night, but that horrible haze set in, i also had issues with the south easterly wind blowing through my open obs roof, that in itself was not the problem though, my door on my home built obs is on the north wall of the obs, which meant as the wind rushed through it kept blowing open the door and then it would swing back on its hinges and slam shut, the vibration caused messed up a fair few of my frames, so i have just put that right, by fitting a latch to the inside of the door, should have done that much sooner Regards, Tom. It just hasn't been good enough when I tried over the last couple of nights. Yes, I did take a couple of images of Saturn through the TV85, but since it's so small you can not see any detail. In your case, when the wind changes direction, so will your thoughts about fitting the latch. Easterly's, which have been blowing all week here, are good for me as the dome affords me good protection from that direction. It was a good stiff breeze (9 to 12 mph)last night but I was as snug as a bug in a rug in the Dream-Maker. Have a good night (with latch fitted) Regards. Peter. Well, i just popped back indoors for a cup of tea I`ve left the scope and ccd rolling on M64, earlier i captured both M101 and NGC 4565 the needle galaxy, i have shot both those targets recently, but my skies were not good, tonight looks better, so i`m hoping i can get some fair results from these captures, fingers crossed. After my run on M64 has finished i will look to see what else is on offer if my sky holds. Hope some of you people are having fun too!!
