Maybe some kind of database app. I'm not programmer enough to do it, but I bet there are those on CN who can and would be willing. Just a thought.

I've been hanging around this site for some time now. I've read through tons of very detailed articles and threads and have learned a lot.

The last few posts in this thread led me to think I should give back to the community by creating a site where it'll be easier for people to find one another.

The outcome was www.ScopeBuddies.com

Its a very basic site right now. You can mark your location by entering your country, state and city. You can search for someone by Country/State/City.

I intend to add more stuff based on what you all think would be useful. So send me feedback and I'll try to implement as much as I can.

OK so here's a long shot, anybody up in Alaska? Drop me a line summer or winter. Even if your just visiting, we can get together and do some observing then some fishing!
I live in the Anchorage area but am down on the kenai peninsula every now and then.

This is an update to www.ScopeBuddies.com
Thanks to those who registered and sent their feedback.
I've updated the site with a couple of new features and fixed a few bugs.
For those who haven't registered yet, please do so. It'll help a fellow astronomer find you... It may even help you.

Fixed an error on www.ScopeBuddies.com where you couldn't view user details. I'm working on another error where sometimes a user cannot register.
Thanks again to all for the feedback.

Anyone from Chicagoland gearing up for this year's Messier Marathon? If weather permits, I'll be running it in Green River Wildlife Area, near Dixon. I had a warm-up there last Saturday - awesome site, dark sky, friendly coyotes

I registered on Scopebuddies.com - AWESOME IDEA Jack! Maybe we could use some kind of shoutbox there for cities to post short messages like "I am going observing tonight to Green River, anyone is welcome to join me. Bring donuts.", etc.

Hello to all you wonderful people out there in CN land. This is my first post so bear with me. I`m sort of a newbie, was into astronomy when in high school and am just coming back from a 45 year hiatus. I live on Drummond Island in northern MI and as far as I know there isn`t a club or another enthusiast within a hundred miles of here. This is a resort area and with thousands of tourist coming here each year I`m hoping some of you might be some of them and be interested in meeting to do some skywatching while your here. Hopefully I`ll have a telescope by then. Sky Watcher 150AR EQ5 backordered now for 5 weeks. I`m on the map posted a ways back and will be on scopebuddies.com as soon as I sign off here. Hope to hear from you. Jack

Kept on getting a runtime error when I clicked save to register. Great idea for a site by the way. I can't wait for years from now to see what'll it'll turn into. It'll probably be a major hub for astronomers.

Just signed up on scopebuddies.com- Awesome idea. I live about 45 minutes north of Columbus, Oh (Mt. Gilead), interested in any experienced or novice observers who want to have a look this spring/summer.

I posted this a few years ago but let's try it again.

I need observing partners for Upstate New York area. I'm just outside the capital region. It would be nice to have some folks to travel up north to a new dark location that I plan on visiting in the Blue Mountain Lake region.

If anyone is around here, please feel free to send me a private message. Thanks a bunch!
