Not only good news about Russian refractors, but also GREAT news about a new refractor BOOK at the end of the article.

Thanks, Neil!

Can we hear more about the coming book? Perhaps a chapter listing and summary, including the size range reviewed?

Hello Jim,

I hope the summary below helps.

Choosing and using a Refracting Telescope (~210 pages with 80 illustrations)

(I) A comprehensive guide to buying, testing and using a refracting telescope for astronomy, nature studies and photography.

(II) Provides an in-depth look at both classic and contemporary refractors (Apos and achromats)from all genres and how best to use them.

(III)Everything you need to known about refracting telescopes and spotting scopes in one handy volume.

Capturing the essence of the refractor market is like hitting a moving target, but I hope it fits the bill.

Keep a look out from time to time on the Springer website for more information.

Many thanks,

Neil English

Thanks. I hope you also cover accessories, including quantitative evaluations of using field flattners for scopes other than their original target (Thomas Back used to be picky).

(Sorry for hijacked the forum on your review. Many thanks for your article.)

I just wanted to say that I loved your article Neil. I myself picked up 2 Tal 100R's earlier this year (greedy I know).

I just flocked them and am planning to use one for photography and one for visual but I must say I was using one last night and they an excellent scope, giving some wonderful views of the night sky. A joy to use to be honest.

Thanks again for the article.

Kathleen

Hi Ploughc

I don't think Tal are manufacturing the 125R at the present time. The only option is for you to look out for one second hand. The come up from time to time.
Hope that helps.

Neil.
