Hello,
I'm looking at programming out the PEC on my mount using PemPro. Before I do, I just want to clarify a few things with those that know more about this procedure than I.
Is it possible to use the Starshoot Autoguider (QHY5) with this program?
My understanding of the procedure is this.. Capture the PEC by running PemPro and using the camera to monitor star drift as your mount tracks for at least 4-5 worm gear rotations. (do not autoguide) Then create a curve using the data and upload this curve to your mount. (a NexStar CPC in my case) Then all I need to do is enable the PEC playback before doing any imaging to apply this correction curve to my mount's tracking.
Is there anything I'm missing here?
Thanks for any advice..

Just a comment. Even if you get your mount programmed you will still need to guide the mount to get long exposures I'd save my money...
Most guiding software tends to collide with the operation of the PEC....but PEC alone will not work you'll still get variations in the DEC PEc only effects the RA axis
What kind of mount do you have? allot already have the PEC corection routines built in

That all depends on the software/hardware of the mount itself. My PE is so bad that I HAVE to run PEC & autoguide to get any decent images. Autoguiding by itself won't do it.
I use MaximDL for my guiding. I have an ATM mount driven by SiTech servo drive.

Oh, I definately plan to Autoguide as well. There are quite a few people I've seen post that use both PEC correction as well as autoguide with great results. I can't really see how a properly applied PEC correction curve would cause many problems for the autoguider?

If the corrections are coming from 2 sources then they must be syncronized Does Pempro do this not that familiar with it.
Depending on your imaging scale I could see a need for it but if you at a moderate scale then not sure it's necessary

The first set of correction comes from the controller (software). There is a trigger on the worm that tells the controller to start the PEC cycle. The controller knows when & how much to speed up / slow down. It make no difference if the controller tell the motors to go a steady speed (no PEC)or to vary the speed (PEC).
Autoguiding just tells the controller to give a little bump up/down. The way I see it, There is only one set of corrections (from the Autoguider).
but like I said in the last post, It depends on the mount.

I have used PemPro to train the PEC on my mount (CPC800). And I used my SSAG to do it with. However, PemPro does not know its the SSAG because it uses MaxIm or CCDSoft to actually acquire the images. Now I think PemPro can access regular capture devices (WDM webcams and such). I have a NexImage that I originally used to train my PEC, but once I got the SSAG I did it over.
I find that it has helped A LOT to getting longer exposures even with guiding. And it really helps getting the PEC running when I am doing a long polar alignment using PemPro.
