At what position and distance from Venus would you have to have been to see Venus fully eclipse the sun, just as our moon does during a solar eclipse?

By similar triangles,

Dvenus/Rvenus = Dsun/Rsun

so

Dsun/Dvenus = Rsun/Rvenus = about 11

So you'd have to be 1/11th the distance of Venus to the Sun. IIRC about 6 million miles.

Good logic but the distance from Venus that you'd need to be 1/11th of is the distance from the Earth to Venus.

At the transit, distance from Earth to Venus was (approx) 0.2887 AU = 43.2 million Km (26.8 million miles) so you'd have needed to be about 2.44 million miles behind Venus to see the sun completely but only just obscured by the planet.

So, now the obvious question is, What would a Venusian solar eclipse look like? I assume it would be quite different from a lunar eclipse because of Venus' significant atmosphere and clouds. This is more than an academic curiosity since is quite likely that 105 years from now, you will be able to travel to the eclipse point to view the next transit of venus as a solar eclipse.

It should look like a solar eclipse as seen from the Moon. Which will be much more accessible than the Venusian neighbourhood in 2117.

So, has anyone ever photographed a solar eclipse from the Moon?
