We imaged Venus today (June 5th) under very clear skies just past local noon (10:45 UT). The planet was only 44' from the Sun's edge and 0.015% illuminated. A 10-cm off-axis mask was used on an Orion Optics UK SPX 25-cm f/6.3 Newtonian, Astrodon UV filter and a Basler Ace ac640-100gm camera. Photo: Jure Atanackov, Rok Pucer, Matic Smrekar.
Clear skies!

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. It was a bit of a balancing act, positioning the off-axis mask so that the sunlight didn't hit the primary mirror (and that any that did then missed the focuser). But as Venus won't be so close to the Sun for another 8 years it was worth the effort (on June 3rd, 2020, 19h UT it will be at 14' from the Sun's limb and 0.003% illuminated).
Mike, the image was submitted to Spaceweather.com, it's (burried) in the Transit gallery.
We also planned a post-transit observation, but at T+8.5h the sky here is still too milky and the immediate vicinity of the Sun far too bright for any reasonable chance of success.
Clear skies!
Jure

Congratulations, this is the most amazing planetary image I've ever seen. IMHO it was absolutely insane to try, but then opinions are opinions and sanity is a moveable feast.
Just out of interest (and, if the answer is "insanity" I still want to hear it) why did you use the UV filter for this shot? I'd have thought the sky would be brighter in UV than in deep red / IR ... and the camera response is really falling off in the UV, meaning longer exposure times in worse seeing as well as less contrast with the sky background ... I managed to image Venus in full daylight with Wratten 29 until May 28th when I was starting to get too much unbaffled light for me to consider it safe, but I gave up on the UVenus filter about the end of April when the phase became small enough for cloud details to stop showing.
