Upgrading from Dual Axis to GoTo new
      #2635432 - 09/10/08 05:24 PM

How difficult or what is involved in upgrading an Atlas EQ-G Dual Axis controlled mount to the GoTo version?
Thanks for your help!

I believe it can be as simple as buying the Goto hand controller and plugging it in. It depends upon how old the mount is. Newer... no problem....older, may be a problem.

I think you need to buy a kit that contains:
2 new more powerful motors
a hand controller
PCB board

EQ-G means it already has the intelligent motor controller and the motor. This is also known as SynTrek.
SynTrek + intelligent handbox = SynScan (GOTO).

An alternative of the intelligent handbox is using a PC running EQMOD software emulating the intelligent handbox (and more).

P.S. there is an even earlier version, i.e., original Atlas mount, which is not EQ-G. This model requires the entire GOTO upgrade kit.

Clear Skies!

ccs_hello - thanks for the clarification.
After these upgrades, is the mount identical to an EQ6 Pro?

Yes, identical to EQ-G Atlas, SynScan EQ6, or whatever they called it nowadays .

Clear Skies!
