One of the coolest items to arrive at my door

Here is a picture of the box. This is one sturdy box as the item inside weighs about 60 lbs and the whole thing was set inside a cardboard box with some paper stuffed around. The whole thing was loosely in the cardboard moving all around. But, except for broken rails inside, it survived well.

Inside

Details... Here or Here

Just awesome Zeiss optics. You can look left, right, up, or down without ever moving. Everything is sealed, so you can mount it outside and forget about it. And, enough dials to play with for years!

I was pretty happy. Had to pay quite a bit more than my final bid, but still really happy to have it. Now I am in search of the tripod. This thing is WAY bigger than it looks.

I remember seeing some tripods in one of the buildings at Surplus Shed that were similar to the one in your links. Perhaps you should give them a call.

Preston/Clint, thank you. Clint, what is Orco?

Preston, I assume you may have seen one of these before? I have it outside right now and I think my wife described it best..."It looks military and performs like a high end Zeiss binocular." The lenses and mechanics on the thing must have cost a fortune.

Who needs a tripod, mount it through your roof so you can star gaze (or people watch) from inside heated comfort!

JR,

Here are a couple more pictures. This is a binocular telescope. Once I mount it on a tripod, you will be able to sit in one place and scan the skies. The prisms adjust so the eyepieces do not move. +60 degrees and -20 degrees.

Gene, I have been outside doing a bit of that this afternoon. It's pouring rain, so this is one gloomy image. Star testing will have to wait until later next week when the rain clears.

Right now collimation seems spot on. No lateral or vertical displacement. Edge of field looks great, very flat across the entire field. Focus snaps in like nothing I have seen before. Focus is helical for each eye. I put a spot light on the other side of the fence and saw no ghost images or stray light when it was out of the field. There does appear to be a bit of color, but I will check that more later. Exit pupils are absolutely perfect, about 7mm. I did not measure the eye relief. It is not exceptionally long, but very comfortable. The contrast and resolution is hard to describe. Definitely the best of any binocular I have looked through. Everything just looks bright and full...even in the rain. There is something magical here, but I do not know what it is

Because of the rain, I could not set up the binoculars in a good spot. But, I think this picture shows a bit(the fence is actually curved at the top and the bushes are on a hill )
