Unitron 114 arrives!
      #4691780 - 07/14/11 10:05 AM Attachment (73 downloads)

A busy week...Cave the other day and my "new" Unitron just arrived. I think I will name it "Presto" in honor of the seller. But first, off to an appointment and lunch with my brother-in-law who is flying in this morning.

Very nice, Steve--congrats!!! I almost bought your "new" Unitron 114 from Preston, but decided I just couldn't swing it right after buying Dan's (datapanic) Tasco 7TE-5.

Hey Steve!

Nice scope!

Hope you can get it under some planets and stars real soon!

Enjoy!

And when you DO get it under some planets and stars, you'll be amazed at what this little Unitron can do. I was. You'll love it.

I believe Roland has a quote about Unitrons that is not quite as flattering! Don't get me wrong, if you have and like Unitrons great. Just not my cup of tea.

Gregg What the heck? Rain on the 114 parade???

Unitron made some of the cream of the Classic Telescopes. If many of us close are eyes and think Classic Telescope the long sexy legs of a Unitron come to mind.
What would Roland say about his 80mm Japanese guide scopes that sold for $499. just the OTA. They were made no better than a 60mm Unitron, in fact they are pretty cheesy. And if Roland made a super APO version of this 114 setup, A 60mm Telescope on a alt az mount what would the pricing be like. Eyepiece = $450. Eyepiece adapter = $65.50. OTA = $2199. (18 month lead time) Diagonal = $199. Mount leg stabilizing tips = $35.40 each................on and on and on.....
Don't get me wrong Roland's gear is the kind, But it would be kind of like asking the stuck up dorks at Ferrari or Porche to get excited about my 1966 El Camino which to many is a cool old classic car....

Beautiful telescopes, Steve and Clint! Can anyone tell me what the tube length of the Unitron 114 is? I bought a tube (supposed 114 replacement) from eBay a little while ago and it looks pretty short (about 25.5 inches) for a 60mm f/15. Is it meant to have a drawtube focuser? Thanks, Peter.
