Here is my attempt at NGC 281. It's the first time I've tried to combine subs from more than two sessions. It's a tight crop because I have been having issues with random loops, swirls and light flares and I haven't figured out what's causing it or how to stop it.

Capture Details

f/6.3 Reducer
Baader Modified Canon 450D

Here is my first ever submission to one of these DSO challenges.

I have been plowing through with reckless abandon. I have been shooting unguided, unmodded, at unhealthy focal lengths. The end result is about 50% throwaway data, but there are decent subs in the mix, so you get what you see here.

Guiding: Nada
Focusing: Fingers
Subs: unspecified combination of 32s, 60s, and 93s totaling 4.2 hours
Processing: DSS

May as well toss mine in, just to give everyone something different to look at.

"Scope": Super Takumar 200mm F4 @ F5.6
Camera: Canon T4i/650D unmodified

Subs: 40x120s @ ISO 1600; 21 darks, 29 bias
Location: 20 miles SW of Boise, ID
SW: DSS & PS CS2

I need to develop some better PP skills, especially removing/muting excessive background stars.

Thanks everyone. I certainly vote myself out of the beginner competitions now!

I really like M35 and think clusters are good beginner level targets.

Beautiful shot! I entered, didn't get a vote, oh well, I won once, its a great feeling! My issue was time and weather. I can see what you mean about feeling wrong. A lot of people frown on narrowband images and CCD images when those of us feel DSLRs have a handicap. I just push through it and use the tools that I have. If I win I win, if not I still feel good about it and I learn something new. Thats the point of this I think. As long as you take something away from it, we are all winners! I voted for yours because lets face it it really is a beautiful shot!

Thank you Jeff. Be careful with the DSLR handicap view. Some may be offended.

I recently got an OSC CCD and feel it is much more like a modded DSLR with regulated cooling than it is like my mono. I didn't expect to see it that differently.
