Which Binocular to choose ??
      #5509578 - 11/08/12 09:17 AM

Hi All,

I am new to astronomy and I have decided to buy my first set of binoculars', after much research I have narrowed down to the the below list.

1. Oberwerk 8x56
2. Oberwerk 9x60
3. Oberwerk/Garret 15x70

Can anyone suggest which one should I go for?

And is there any major difference b/w 8x56 and 9x60 wrt to viewing and overall experience??

I stay in a city which is heavily light polluted.

1. Lunar and Planetary observation,
2. Wanna get used to night sky observation
3. Cluster viewing and Nebulae viewing too.

Clear Skies,

Well you won,t see a lot on the planets, moons of Jupiter, phases of Venus and thats about it, on the Moon a bit more but again limited, star clusters are the main area where a binocular shines. An 8x56 and a 9x60 are very close, not much to bother about anyway, a 15x70 would require a tripod of some sort, yes they can be hand held for short periods but its tiresome and the x15 magnification makes the jiggles more noticable.
I still think a good pair of 10x50,s are the very best first pair of binos for seeing the night sky,DA.
