5mm Vixen LVW Vs 4.5mm TeleVue Delos
      #6272271 - 12/25/13 02:04 PM

Which would be better? Use would be planetary and some deep sky on my 10" F/4.7 reflector.

I like the 5mm LVW, but compared to Delos eyepieces, it feels quite restricted.

Let the duel begin !!!

It seems to me if you are comparing fields and you like what you see in the Delos - ...Drum Roll... then you should get another Delos!

JMHO - Now let the Fighting Begin!

. .

Merry Christmas!

You do know that you are apt to feel the same way about your Pentax 65° XL, don't you?

A question, Markus: Why the XL and not a 70° XW?

If it were I doing it, I would have chosen just what you're getting (the XL), just because I believe it to have a better behaved exit pupil.

Whoops! - I'm off topic...Sorry about that

Markus,

Nobody wants to fight - Not even me:-(

To see the duel I was hoping for I think I'm gonna have to go back to watching "Big Time Wrestling"

No one wants to take on the Delos, so I certainly am not gonna.

As for you - Why fight it?

You just know you want it...

However, if you will use the Vixen for a while more you may come to like the field it provides more gooder?

Coming off of 100° degree eyepieces is sure to be a shock to one's system, so please just take your time...

It would be a welcome shock to me, but you know how us old stick-in-the-mud kinda guys are:-)

Whatever! - I'm with ya all the way, Buddy - Just don't give that fine Vixen away. - Unless you would like to give it to me, of course:-)

Just be careful - Be Cool ...

If your purpose is to use it for planetary why would you worry about the wider AFOV?

I was thinking the exact same thing Chuck! Coming from using 100 degree eyepieces has spoiled me in the AFOV department, and I need to recover,

Looks like I will be holding onto the 5mm Vixen LVW for a while and giving it some ample focuser time!

Planetary AND deep sky as well. For planetary it won't matter, but for deep sky I like to have a wider AFOV, but after looking at them both in Stellarium, the difference is moot.

I agree there is very little real difference. I would choose which ever is best for your primary purpose, personally I use the LVWs and Pentax XFs for planetary.

A 2x telecentric would double your EP collection and turn your 10mm Delos into a 5mm Delos. What's the downside of that?

It's not just the fov, it's the comfort that comes from the eye relief of the Delos or LVW.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to add a barlow or telecentric to my eyepiece collection! I may just do that even though I am not really a big fan of barlows, etc as of late!

Wow. 14 opinions so far from ~10 users and not one, not one has direct experience of comparing the two.

That is what I find disappointing about the eyepieces forum: Mostly opinions, little data.

That is why I say people should be encouraged to write reviews. There are not enough reviews out there.

Dave

I have the 5mm XW and the 6mm Delos. If I had to give one up, it's be the Delos. Haven't used the 4.5mm Delos though. The Deloses IMO are unnecessarily awkward ergonomically. Taller than they should need to be to get the wide field long eye relief thing done. I like the Delos. Just not as much as the LVW, though. The fact that you can get used LVWs for under $150 id a huge plus, too.

Regards,

Jim

I'm going to bump this thread up since I did NOT like the 5mm LVW...... AT ALL !!!

Going to wait and see if I want to do one of two things:

1. Get a 1.6x Antares barlow
2. Get a 5mm XW or a 4.5mm Delos

Time will tell....
