I just read an article about how Play Station 3 owners can use thier idle machine to participate in a project called folding@home. I wonder if einstein@home will introduce the same functionality for PS3. The PS3 has some serious power. IBM is using the same chip in their new supercomputer for the department of energy. That computer is supposed to reach speeds of a petaflop per second, or 1,000 trillion calculations per second. I think if einstein@home updated their application for PS3 usage, it would really make a difference. Not that I don’t think that the folding@home project is not a good program, I just prefer to help science in a different way.
Personally I don’t see myself getting a PS3 anytime soon. But it does look like a great system that I might consider someday. Plus if I can run Einstein@home on it that would be an extra bonus.
