aperture is always king, but in bino's it can be touchy because they're usually hand held. their magnification is also important because that affects how much light filters thru to you etc etc etc. at the same time, smaller FMC bino's can outperform larger bino's just because the coatings aren't as good and a lot of light is lost as it goes along.
I personally would get the 8x56's. they may not be the type of glasses that can be carried around for much tho, due to weight, so you might find yourself using something like the 8x42's. but really, just take your bino's out one night and focus on one object and see what differences you perceive. that will help you realize how aperture is king.
