I think this topic is too broad for a one or two sentence summary. Large Aperture is desireable for dim objects but hardly necessary for lunar observing. I bet you will find lunar viewing more enjoyable with my $50 9-30X40mm spotting scope than you would a Zeiss 8X56 Roof Prism. Higher Power=More Detail. The moon is so bright I doubt our pupils dilate to more than 2mm at low power.
Aperture is good but size and ease of use is also a consideration. A 10 lb 25X100 is about the upper limit for grab and go binouclars. I can carry my 25X100 mounted on a tripod and out the door in one picec. I would not do it with a 16 lb 20/40X100 45 deg bino or the BT 100. Often times I don't want to take out anything bigger than a 20X80 LW when it's below freezing and I am out for a 20 minute quick-look. For now I would consider bigger binouclars only if I can carry the mount and tripod outside in one trip.
