And let's not forget FOV either. An important aspect of the binocular experience is the wide-field views they provide. As aperture goes up, so does magnification as FOV shrinks. You won't find a pair of 7x100 binoculars with an 8° FOV  With a telescope, the focus is more on how deep you can go and how much detail you can see - with binoculars the wow factor often comes from a broad swath of the Milky Way. I have many pairs of large binoculars (2 100mm, 80mm, 50mm), but most of my binocular viewing is done with an exquisite pair of 10x42's precisely because of the wide field views. Only those binoculars can frame the entire constellation of Sagittarius at once - and viewing it that way puts M71 into context and greatly aids in learning the night sky.
