Took a while to sort out the plan for the concrete.
Redimix mixamate would have cost £170 for a minimum of 1m^3. I was not too unhappy with the cost but the mix would go off in 1 hour. Too short a lenght of time for me barrow it all 150 feet or so from the front of the house to the back via the garage. They do have (for extra cost) a small dumper but at 800mm it was too wide to get through the side door on my garage.
Local builders showed little interest. The only one prepared to quote wanted £400 which I beat down to £350.
In the end my father has volunteered to drive to 100 miles down to London with the mixer and a mate who does some labouring for him. His mate wants £100 for the day. Adding in £40 fuel, say £40 for 10 bags of cement, and say £40 for a bulk bag of ballast that gives a bill of around £230.
Looks like this can be done the weekend after Easter.
