You will find a lot of information about the identification code system of many Japanese made binoculars by clicking on to the following link .

Carl Wetzlar is one of those deliberately Bavarian SOUNDING names , used by several companies over the past half century or so , presumably to try to give the impression of the items being of superior quality .
Unfortunately for you , perhaps , quite the opposite is usually true !
Centre - focus binoculars of that style and vintage are very unlikely to be waterproof .
