Manny,

I've had a sizeable chunk of aluminum sitting right on my SkyScout before, and it seemingly it had no effect on performance (it was a laser pointer bracket that I had custom made to fit the SS).

I use my SkyScout frequently to identify alignment stars when I'm setting up my goto mount/scope in remote locations. Typically I'll have my gear piled up on some tables (with steel legs) and some vehicles within 50 or fifty feet of my scope. Within maybe 10 or 15 feet of the tables I occasionally get a message that I'm too close to metal objects. As long as I stay about 30 or 40 feet away from a vehicle it seems to work fine as well. These are all rough estimates.

For my purpose (identifying my alignment stars) I couldn't be happier with the performance of my SkyScout. Yeah, it cost a lot more than my planisphere, but my setup time has decreased dramatically.

Steve
