Hi David,
Regarding the compatibility issue, Orion is not a manufacturer but a retailer. I don't think there is any way that they could have foreseen the problem you're facing.
Okay, that said, I did get an email back from Kevin at Big Binoculars stating that the Oberwerk Heavy-Duty L adapter ($19.95) is narrow enough to fit the 15x70 binoculars. Kevin suggested that a washer could be added between the screw hole and the adapter, providing the bolt is long enough to reach the hole which could help you use the adapter that fits the mount.
I'm still thinking about going with the FarPoint setup because of the extra features it gives.
