Steve,
Thanks for that exciting info. The Nikon EDG is the Nikon/EL amalgam I have been waiting for. I suggested the design to a Nikon rep I talked with last year while discussing my difficulty in holding closed bridged roofs.
You know what my first question is going to be... do the full-sized EDG models have barrel distortion like the full- sized LXs or did Nikon "reinvent the wheel" rather than simply add an ED element to the LX optics?
Nikon also offers 8x42, 7x42, 8x32, and 10x32 models. The 7x42 has a wider FOV than the 8x42 but same AFOV, and since roofs give an apparent image a size or two larger than comparable power porros for my eyes, i'm not likely to notice the smaller image scale, and the greater stability might be worth the trade off in magnification. http://www.eagleoptics.com/index.asp?pid=5234
Now the only question is finding the investment capital for an $1,800 binocular. I heard a rumor that Jimmy Carter is starting a new philantrophy group called "Binoculars for Humanity." :-)
