This what I am looking for, a big mono chip at a price I can stay married with. I like the Original SSDSI, and it is good to see Orion keep raising the bar.

Well, keep waiting... and waiting... and waiting... While you're at it, have a look at the Sony chips and you'll see why you're waiting.. and waiting... There aren't any big mono Sony chips. The biggest is the ICX285AL.
There's a big Micron CMOS job optimized for high-speed. There are also big Kodak mono guys, but you're talking a good number of internal changes. There's one big mono chip that's pretty affordable, but it's noisier than some others. Being full frame, you need a shutter and being a Kodak chip, you need more cooling, regulation becomes key, etc.
The easiest would probably be the KAI-04022 (the color version is in the ST-4000XCM). While not on the top end of Kodak's price list, you're not going to find it in a $1300 camera. It's a good-sized chip though and low-noise that makes up for the hit it takes in QE from the interline design and the ABG.
