It has been a long time ... but when I was a teenager back in the 70s, my Dad and younger brother and I went on a camping trip to some sites in Colorado. One of the places we hit was the Black Canyon of the Gunnison River. I had my binoculars with me and the skies were some of the more spectacular I'd seen (I grew up in Cincinnati, OH). I spent a couple of happy hours bagging more Messier objects than I ever had before, when ... something ... whitish and four-legged appeared and moved slowly around the campsite. I have no idea what it might have been, but it was pretty large! I dove into the camper pretty quickly, prematurely ending what was for me the best night of observing I'd had up to that point.
