Quote: SBIG ST-2000XCM - better pixel size over the DSI III and my images show it "Pixel Size: 7.4 x 7.4 microns " DSI III 6.5x.6.5 microns So, why do you find the ST at the larger pixel size to be better? I am curious. Blueman
Blueman,
Notice he said "for me" the pixel size was better. The choice of a camera for a 400 mm scope is quite different than the choice of a camera for a 4000 mm focal length scope. 6.45u pixels may well be oversampling is sky conditions worse than 7.4u pixels would be for his current scope. Thus, he'd be wasting pixels, the # of photons hitting each well would be lower and thus pushing the signal down closer to the read noise, etc.
