About a dozen years ago my wife and I visited Tobago. We were on Telegraph Hill, an abandoned WWII radio transmitting site. We were enjoying a georgeous dark sky from Latitude 10° N when noises nearby spooked her pretty bad. We packed and left. Turned out to be cows.
Until a couple of years ago I frequently viewed from a National Forest site in the Appalachian Mountains about 45 minutes away. One night, two men walked nervously up to us (there were three of us). These guys looked very suspicious in the dwindling twilight. I grabbed the shotgun I had in the back of the van and kept it close. Turned out the guys were just checking out deer trails and signs for the upcoming hunting season. They enjoyed looking through our scopes and binoculars. I got rid of the shotgun soon after that.
