Karen's advice for your concrete is the best yet. I would not fill any part of the hole with concrete blocks. If you could actually fit 250 lbs of them in the hole, you would only save three bags of concrete mix. Not to mention all the trouble you would have trying to get your rebar into the hole. Plus the lack of adhesion between your new concrete and the old concrete blocks would not be good. Too many negatives to consider that. Hope all goes well for you at the hospital. Sounds like you have your hands way too full.
