C-Thru compass protractor
      05/24/08 05:42 AM

Every year I find myself ordering three or four C-thru compass protractors. I love these things. It seems I am always finding uses for them.

One obvious use is to determine precise azimuth (compass point) with topographical terrestrial maps and star charts. Of course a traditional compass with a magnetic north-pointing needle will also do this. However, I find the C-Thru compass protractor is a pure joy to use when doing map work.

Flipping the C-Thru compass protractor over (reversing the compass points) enables you to get a good read for astronomy use. Try flipping a needle compass over and see how useful it becomes.

Another use is to determine degree of slope incline or altitude. Of course there are more sophisticated instruments that do this more precisely. But they usually cannot be acquired for a $1.40.

And the C-Thru compass protractor is small enough for your shirt pocket--only 3 1/2 inches in diameter. Reach in your pocket and pull out this little guy the next time you find yourself needing a conversation boost for those boring waits in the airport or a slow waiter in a restaurant.

Why do I buy four at a time?

For some reason these tools keep rolling out of my hands.
