My best view of M31 was many years ago during a camping trip to the Wind Cave area of South Dakota. I arose about 2:00 in the AM and Andromeda was high in the sky. The only equipment I had with me was my 7X50 Miradors costing only $100.00. But that view now seems magical and one of the best ever attained. The galaxy seemed to extend forever in the claimed 8 degree FOV of these binoculars. Those "old friends" are lost forever now during a lightning storm at the top of one of the Spanish Peaks.
You haven't seen the Double Cluster until you have seen it through a large aperture Dobsonian with a 31mm Nagler. The view most definitely will knock you off of the ladder.
