Thanks for the good report! I'm anticipating these things being up at a reasonable hour.
One of my best views of M31 was sorely missing optical horsepower, but not dark sky nor ambience. Last summer, we spent a few nights in the Yosemite Valley, a spectacular canyon, and very dark. One night we went out to a clearing, me with my 7x50, my wife with her old 10x50, and were just having a ball. Just as we were about to leave, she points way up to the rim of the canyon, over 1000 feet high for sure and a good ways off, and says "what's that!?". Well it was M31, just rising over the edge. The remarkable thing was, it appeared the same size as a big pine tree right beside it. I'll never forget the strange perspective. Ron
