Don,

Sounds like a focus problem, setup in daylight a focus on the country side. The cam works just fine in broad daylight. The lens you are using might be a CS type in which the 5mm ring needs to be removed to reach focus, or maybe vice-versa, the 5mm ring is needed if the lens is a C mount model. I have the DX8263SL, as you know, and a 12.5-75mm zoom a C mount model, and it works just fine day or night.

Of course, in daylight, sense up is OFF, AGC OFF, Shutter to 1/1000 or more or auto and lens to f11 or more.

PS, I hope you are using a REGULATED 12v power supply and not a basic Radio Shack wall wart as these will really heat up the cam.
