The binoculars are probably somewhat out of collimation. I've had a pair of older binoculars that gave me the same problem; my personal theory is that for a daytime terrestrial image that's just a bit off, your brain does a good job of merging the images based on background detail, but it can't do that for an astronomical view. In my case, a newer, better pair of binoculars made an enormous improvement.
