A Waning Moon Story with Two Sketches

Linda and I were helping friends at a ministry in Southern California during the last days of June 2008. The founder of that ministry, who could easily be named a “mother in the faith”, influenced us when we were young. Although the ministry continues its work, she can no longer function in the power and love toward people that she once had. Now she lies in bed most of the time with people taking care of her. In her nineties, she has lived a full life. The work of the gospel continues through others around her.
She reminds me of the waning moon, which I captured during two successive mornings about 50 yards outside the room where she stays most of the time. At the end of its cycle, it is still a beautiful sight—even when eclipsed by the dawn of another day and overshadowed by desert trees. Likewise, her smile remains bright and you can see the smile in her eyes, although she cannot rise to do what she once did.
