You have taken the first step well because you decided to take it at all. So you should be commended for that at least. This is a good rendering of the general field of view. You have recorded the stars in the field with considerable accuracy and their relation to the Ring Nebula. I was going to do the math with the info you recorded of your equipment, so I could figure the magnification. I am guessing that it was medium mag at say X75 ~ X120 or so.
I am impressed that you have accurately recorded all of the stars in the field of view to the threshold of limited magnitude. I know many astronomers that have the patterns down in memory. Personally I do not observe every Messier object enough to memorize the star patterns in the field of every object. Now your sketch has me wanting to observe M-57 tonight and compare your rendering of the stars in the field. I see that you have lightly rendered the "Ring" as seen in medium magnification. Will you attempt it in larger format eventually, to show detail?
As an artist since early childhood, it was not until my middle adult years that I saw a news article posted on an art museum wall that was titled: Art is Not a Product; Art is a Process. Congratulations on your first engagement with experiencing the process and sharing it with us. This is also the great experience of the scientific method- To share it with others.
Keep up the good work! I will look forward to your next sketch.
