Here is an observation with my old 13 inch Newtonian on a good night.

Seeing=7, Transparency=8/10 13" f/5.6 100X-easy to see disk is pretty faint, pretty small. 220X-still pretty faint, pretty small, elongated 2X1 in PA 20, somewhat brighter middle, averted vision fills in the faint outer round shell. Grey in color at all powers. There is a faint star on the NE edge, it comes and goes with the seeing.
