Small binoculars -- company optimization??
      07/10/08 09:58 AM

Still testing and hunting for a smaller wider field binoculars (8-10x @ 40-60mm). In the process, after some initial handle on a few, and after reading many many reviews, I take note that optimization of product lines is hinted at but rarely do I see subsequent reports that say this or that was fixed. Does optimization really occur by manufacturers for popular high-production lines and, if so, is there any way to find out what changed without man-handling every candidate? For instance, the short binocular reports are excellent and point to some features that are just plain dumb and should be corrected...if the manufacturer has a mind to do it. Are there some companies (which would be a compliment to them) that actually introduce periodic changes?

For instance, some OBs cannot focus at short ranges as tested by folks here...can they now?

Some Nikons have poor off-center focus...corrected?

The list could go on...

My experience is that few companies in other product lines seriously optimize but there are a few and they are known to do it. If that is true for smaller binoculars, would sure like to know which ones tend to do it...and would avoid the ones that never do.

Roland
