The Olympus box also says "Product manufactued in Japan; Box printed in China."
It is a major "no no" (under US law at least) to label an article so that the country of origin designation is confusing or misleading. On Orion Dobsonians, for example, they are very careful to say "Designed by Orion in California but manufactured in China". Many American cars are made in Mexico. On the window sticker it will identify Mexico as the country of origin rather than USA.
If "Japan" and not "China" is the only designation mark featured on a product itself, the article should have been manufactured in Japan. Very interesting. On the Nikons, is there any other indication (on packaging, in the manual, etc.) that the true country of origin for the binoculars is China?
Regards,
Jim
