My first meteorites were a handful of small NWA 4293 chips - a classic H6 chondrite with shiny desert polish and high magnetic attraction. I bought them on a whim, cheap, from a collector who was selling off some of his smaller specimens to raise money for some bigger purchases. We had done a couple of gear deals on AM prior, so I didn't think twice about buying some meteorites from him.
When they arrived, they were small and unassuming, but what they represented was truly astronomical. I felt a sense of awe when I first held one. It was the first time I had ever touched a piece of something that is older than the Earth and comes from space. It was magical and addicting. The madness had started. I still have those small NWA 4293 fragments for sentimental value - they are what got me started.
