A little backlash in RA should not be a problem as long as the RA axis is balanced a little east heavy. Are you using The Sky for goto control? If so have you changed the RA and Dec correction speeds in The Sky? When I had my NJP I noticed so strange guiding a few times and each time it was quickly fixed by changing theses settings in The Sky 6.
