Two smaller craters
      07/20/08 09:07 AM

Good seeing on June 19 allowed me to use higher magnification to get nice views of two smaller craters in the northwest of the Moon.

First one is Harpalus:

This crater has a diameter of about 40km and is located in the western part of Mare Frigoris. It has a very cleanly defined edge with terraces falling away to the floor and the ejecta surrounding the crater shows up well against the smooth Mare.

Second one is Carpenter

Diameter is about 60km, the sun is at a lower angle so most of the floor is in shadow. The western wall of the crater appears very smooth and has not collapsed into terraces. This is a young crater and contrasts with the very eroded Anixander crater that it partially obliterates.
