havent tried any dso's yet, mostly concentrated on closer objects like planets and the moon for the learning curve to kick in....
im also learning how to use my eq platform, that has been a steep learning curve, and i ended up modifying it a lot to get it to do what i wanted it to do,
i dont use auto-guiding or a goto system, so the challenge has been to find the objects in the middle of the light polluted city

as far as the camera goes, you may want to consider the prime focus method, where you screw an adapter on the camera itself, then use it inplace of the eyepiece, or basicaly , slide directly into your focuser and use the camera as the eyepiece....its cheaper, and i think the results are better
look up these 2 methods of astrophotography:
afocal
prime focus
