As a child of the Space Age, I agree that there are many gray heads in the astronomy clubs, and that we need to recruit younger folks. This is one reason why I do astronomy outreach at schools. I use a laptop computer with the telescope. The children can relate to the computer easier than to the telescope, and when they see the computer drive the telescope they are very impressed. Today's children are fond of electronic gadgets, and the modern GoTo telescope/computer combination can get them hooked on the hobby. Hook a digital camera to the scope and they are really impressed. My cheap scope of the 60s was a 3 inch acromatic Chinese refractor. It worked well enough to see the moon and planets, and had decent enough views. I did not know what color abberations were at that time, anyways!
