BTW - I think that would work fine. With 45° binoculars, the EP's are worst case at a 45° angle when looking at the Zenith, so even a small amount of friction would prevent them from falling out, but there does need to be something. Miyauchi themselves used an o-ring type solution in some of their binoculars and I agree that trying to mimic the mechanical locking system would be impractical...
