Thank you gentlemen!

I'm very curious as mine doesn't clunk yet, but in September I will be driving about to a remote dark sky site in New Mexico and traveling over washboarded dirt roads for many miles. In case a clunk develops, I want to make certain that I have the right tools to remedy it in the field. It would be a tragedy to drive so far for dark skies and be defeated by equipment issues.

Just a couple of questions to make sure I understand the two issues. Israel, it sounds to me as if you needed to tigten one of the three retaining screws on the ring that attaches the meniscus to the OTA. It looks like this would require a phillips head screw driver. I have that covered in a multi-tool.

Julio, it sounds from the linked article as if the author removed the meniscus assembly and manually tightened a retaining ring attaching the secondary to the meniscus. Is that your reading as well? If so, I'm assuming that the same screw driver would allow removal of the meniscus assembly.

Regards,

Jim

Jim i wouldn't remove the meniscus if i were you, save yourself the possibility of something being misaligned.I would remove the rear section, primary lid.The author possibly simply reached in and tightened the ring by hand, a measure i would emply USING FRESH COTTON GLOVES OF COURSE. I'm going to check this issue today, getting myself some gloves after work.
