Restoring WWII 10x80 Flak Glass
      11/21/04 04:40 PM

I picked up a set of WWII Giant Binos last week at a flea market (at $45 I couldn't believe it). Made by Leitz (BEH), they've shown 60 years of wear. They're in decent shape considering, but badly in need of reconditioning. I'm trying to decide whether to do myself (and thanks to Nils Schoultz for his excellent and informative article), but don't have the appropriate tooling or likely the technical skills either. Can anyone recommend someone who can restore the glassess? It doesn't need to be the world expert or anything, but I would like to find someone whom I have confidence in. Objectives are clean, but prism housing will need to be removed and prisms are badly in need of cleaning. Filters are inoperable as well, and all exterior surfaces should be stripped and refinished. Any feedback from the group? Thanks in advance for your input.

Ben
