I use an old EQ1 or EQ2 mount (who knows waht it is or even who made it) that way with my 100 mm refractor...I do not need the counter weight or the shaft ...

No purchase necessary.
The altaz mode works very well if you are willing to use a telrad/laser and manual slewing. Don't forget to balance properly. I bought the flexible shaft extensions for ease of use.
