Quote: Go right to the best source. His son A.Jaegers Jr. is still in business. I just received a catalog from him postmarked 12-3-2008. I have corresponded with him via snail mail and telephone. He will talk your ear off. Very nice guy.
He has a nice assortment of *new* classic parts including a focuser and tailpiece for a 6" refractor and a neat 7x50 finder.
I have a 1976 Six inch Cave Astrola refractor. Cave did not make refractor objectives but bought them from Jaegers.
The original Jaegers shop burned down in the 70's I believe. I think that was the end of their heyday. Write a letter and you may just be able to write his father's biography yourself. Bill SkyExplorers
It is official, Al Jaegers Jr. has decided to close the business. I exchanged email with him on 7-15 and to quote Al: "business has closed". I suspected something was up when their website had been shut down.
I guess it's not too surprising considering they weren't doing much marketing wise. It's really too bad, they produced some real fine achromat objectives over the years.
