Re: Binoculars availability in Dublin?

Hello Moonless, I live in Dublin and there is one store Con's Cameras I know of that stocks a decent range of binoculars. This store is located near the city centre on Clarendon Street in a nice area of town and one of the main shopping districts.
They stock several models of the main big brands, Nikon, Canon, Leica, etc and also do a mid range brand called Opticron which I am not that familiar with.
One thing to be aware of it that Binoculars are expensive over here. If you will exporting them to outside Europe you should be able to get a VAT rebate of 21.5% off the retail price. I'm unsure if the store can sell you them less the VAT or you have to complete some sort of export form to claim it back afterwards. Given that we are in the middle of a economic recession its well worth haggling for a discount on price, esp on the higher end models.
As Robert says, you should be able to purchase some models not available in the US, e.g. Nikon E2 10x35. However as an example the quoted price for this model on the Con's Camera site is 713.59EUR or approx 1050USD (this will include 21.5% VAT).
You should also be able to purchase Fujinon binoculars like FMT-SX 8x30 and 10x50. The Fuji film stores can get them for you special order which might take a week to order in. Bear in mind that their stores mainly sell cameras and film processing so may have limited/no knowledge of binoculars. I'm not aware of Fujis being available off the shelf or even advertised in any of their stores. I you want to enquire on this further I'd recommend the Fuji film store in Dundrum Shopping Centre fujiimageservice@gmail.com or +353-1-2967359. Ask for the store manager Noel Cassidy.
If you are here for a while you could also purchase mail order from the UK at: Amazon UK Warehouse Express Note pricing will be in GBP(British pounds) and not EUR from these sites.
David.
