I do not think I ever said My Jasper has not become dimmer in the winter...BUT it has never failed (well until the battery died) to function well enough so that I could easily use it...It handles the cold 100 times better then the Cheap Celestron GLP I have mounted on another scope ..
Both of mine are mounted on telescopes..24/7 the Jasper is on my scope that I have mounted n my observatory...The Celestron is mounted on a scope I keep mounted on its tripod in the garage
My limit is 9 degrees F...any colder then 10 degrees and this old boy stays inside...even with the heated clothing I draw the line.
BTW I replaced the battery at Radio Shack and spend over 20 bucks for the battery...what kind of Battery did you replace yours with...I need to find a source of a cheaper battery that is for sure...

Bob,
Sorry to misquote you!
The batteries I got were from Home Depot or Lowe's, (there are both pretty close to me). If memory serves, it was about 10.00 for a 2 pack, and the brand is "Surefire". I also seem to remember marketing info on the package indicating they were good in the cold, but I could be mistaken.
I guess I was just wondering if it would make sense, or make any difference to put a dew heater strip on the laser to keep it warm? I'm really surprised to see it dim to pretty much invisible at 65 degrees.
