Does anyone know if the extension column for Stellarvue's M2 mount will attach to the tripod that came with my Orion Skyview Pro EQ mount? This would save me some money and reduce clutter in the house if I could put the M2 on the Orion tripod. Thanks to all of those who can help answer this question.

Hello Jason,
The is SV MEC2 base is bored to attach to a tripod that has a 5/8-11 bolt.
If this is the bolt size of your tripod, then you're set. If its not, then I'm sure that any of the clever precise parts suppliers in the US can easily make the appropriate bolt adapter for your tripod.
If not, get in touch with Mark at Teton Telescopes. Berlebach in Germany offer thread bolt adapters, and as the US Berlebach reseller, Mark may be able to assist.
Note that I do not work for, nor have any other relationship with Mark or Teton Telescopes..,
Hope that helps..,

Jason,
The spreader bolt that comes with the SVP tripod is M10. The M2 riser can be ordered with either a 5/8" threaded bore or a 3/8" threaded bore (mine are 3/8). However, I'd guess that a call to Vic at Stellarvue might get you an M10 bore if you were to order a new M2 from SV. They have a complete shop and may be able to make this mod for you though it may take a little time. The SVP tripod would be an excllent match for this mount.
The only problem you will run into is that on top of the SVP head there is a metal tab that sticks up for "north" orientation and adjustment with the SVP EQ mount. You will probably have to shave (file or grind) about 1/8" off the inside face of this tab so that the M2 base will sit all the way down in the mounting hole. This shouldn't have any effect on orienting the EQ mount when you want to use it.

Thanks for your help and suggestions. I have decided to give the Astro-Tech Voyager mount a try, and so I have went ahead and ordered one of those for now. Will see how well I like it, liked the looks of the M2 very much though. Time will tell, we astronomers trade equipment like crazy sometimes, gotta find what you like and can live with. Its like picking a spouse.

I'd give it a first place in the "Understatement of the Year" contest!
Enjoy the Voyager!
